Waipara Heli-Wine Trail
Try a unique wine trail and tasting experience through the Waipara wine district with HELiPRO. Depart from Christchurch and head north over the Waimakariri River taking in views of the city and Canterbury Plains whilst tracking for the Waipara wine district. Waipara’s latitude equates to that of the south of France in the northern hemisphere, to the east it is separated from Pegasus Bay by a range of hills which protect it from the cooling winds of the Pacific Ocean, to the west lie the Southern Alps (Main Divide), from where the region's hot Nor’west winds derive. Its sheltered position, but proximity to the sea, give it warm days, cool nights and a dry autumn, resulting in a very prolonged ripening period. This promotes intense flavour development and optimal ripeness, while retaining good natural acidity of the grapes. Visit 4 of the fantastic wineries in this region - Mudhouse Winery, Waipara Springs, Torlesse Wines and the prestigious Pegasus Bay Winery with an option to stop for lunch before returning to Christchurch.
